5 December 2011

I am trying to remember what I last wrote. Anyway I know that I haven't blogged about the last couple of weeks. Last week was really busy. It started off with the Foo Fighter's concert on the Monday night. As always they are a great band to watch live. It was the first time I have been to the NIB stadium and I wasn't too impressed with the set-up. It would have been much better if the stage had been another metre higher. We were about half way from the stage in the general admission area. The other problem was with some of the songs the singing was over powered by the instruments, which seemed a little odd in more the ballad type songs. This may have been due to the stadium or the weather. Out door locations can be a bit hit or miss with the acoustics. The band has such energy though and I am always impressed by their stamina and that David Grohl can keep his voice for the 2 and half hours of straight singing. Tenacious D opened for them and they are pretty good. Not much to look at but the music is good and the lyrics clever.

On Friday we were at our first Christmas function of the year. This one was for the AIG (Australian Institute of Geoscientists) and it was a cruise on the Swan River. It was a brilliant day for it. Very sunny, hot and not much of a breeze. We left from Brunswick St pier and went all the way down to the Fremantle harbour and back. Very calm. The food was only ok. I thought that their hot food selection was a little odd though I enjoyed the salads and cold meat selection. Dessert was just fruit salad and cream and some danishes. There was a lot of alcohol though. We drank mid-strength beer mostly, I tried a glass of the white but found it a bit on the sweet side.
This weekend was my big Christmas lunch for my friends. Mostly for the kiwi's over here that don't have any family and a couple of randoms. Next time I am going to tell people to turn up earlier because I had said that Lunch was a one so they turned up then even though that was the time the food was ready. The food went ok. I was a little disappointed in the veggies, not my cooking but since last week has been extraordinary hot here in Perth the vegies that looked good at the shop the previous weekend weren't the best when I bought them on Saturday. My trifle was pretty awesome if I do say so myself. I used the jam that I made in September and it was great. I didn't really like the turkey roll that we got in the end and I am glad I decided to cook some chicken breast with it. I found the turkey to be really salty and dense. I don't think I would buy that again even though it was easier. Brad bought a really nice ham. Huge but really nice tasting, I think he bought the most expensive one but it was worth it.
Not much else happening. Trying not to die in the heat. I am hoping not to have much on next weekend. I need a bit of a break and some relaxing.
